Self-Sufficient

Having already devoured two troughs of baby leaf lettuce this summer, it's time for us to experiment by planting in a Gro-Bag. I've planted Little Gem lettuce one side & Samish spinach seeds (to be eaten as baby leaf) on the other.
At the end of WEEK 1 only the lettuce is peeking through...

Week 2 & the Spinach has made a welcome appearance...

Guilty...

I can't 'do' thinning. I try to follow the instructions on a packet of seeds ... but when it comes to 'thinning', choosing the 'strongest' seedlings and chucking out the 'weaklings', then it's here that I fail.

If all 42 tomato seeds take the trouble to put in the effort, then all 42 plants will get potted up & not discarded (said in a quiet voice) ... "to the compost bin".

I'm also guilty of planting 3 or 4 plants per pot too ... go on, handcuff me n' chuck away the key.

Lupin Love

 

There's something about Lupins ... watching bees opening up the individual flower cups (avoiding the little 'pointy' bit inside), moving onto the next one & then returning to ones they've already been to. Can't they hear me yelling ..."YOU'VE DONE THAT ONE ALREADY ... IT'S EMPTY"

Summer in the UK?

Yes ... Summer has officially arrived ... SIGH ...

Herb Garden

We've gone herb mad this year and no salads escape without a sprinkling of chopped Mint & Parsley mixed with sliced lettuce ... heavenly.

All growing in black, plastic troughs...simples.

Parsley (that's slowly growing into a tree ... I really must chop this back), Rosemary & Yellow Marjoram

Sage, Oregano & Chives

More sage & two types of thyme (Golden and ... erm ... not so golden)

Happiness Is...

The result of our 'Epiphany'...two lawned areas (1 circle, the other 'wavy') edged with dark grey block paving. 4 ton of purple slate to create meandering pathways to the pond, shed, conservatory & 3 seating areas and a range of plants to soften the edges. All that's left is to sit back and enjoy.....

An Epiphany...

This is the result of an 'epiphany' moment last year on holiday. We'd spent years getting our own garden how we wanted...or so we thought...but then realised that we were spending more time cutting the grass than relaxing and enjoying it. Two weeks later most of the lawn was on a skip and almost 4 ton of slate was en-route....
