Bird Watching

I’ve finally managed to get a picture of our neighbourhood’s most beautiful visitor, the heron.
He’s been hanging around on & off for years but by the time I’ve dug out the camera, flicked off the lens cap, switched it on, waited for the batteries to warm up, focused & clicked he’s already in a different county. His arrival always brings out our resident crows who spend there days chasing him away, dive-bombing him while in mid-flight and generally making him feel very unwelcome.
There can only be one thing on his mind round these parts & that’s garden fishponds.
But he is a sight to behold as he glides over the roof tops & struts along like a super model.

Jane gorgeous picture my BIL used to keep fish until a heron ate them all so he turned the pool into a sand pit for the kids lol. Love Alison xx

This is my husband's favorite bird. Every time we see one, I call out, "There's your bird!". :) I wondered what the bird was doing on top of a roof - but you explained it - looking for garden pond fish! Eek!

What a super model he is, Jane! Shame on the crows for being so rude. We have herons on the lake here, and they are just amazing creatures. That's a great shot you got of him. I know what you mean about something having time to fly off to another country while one gets the camera out. LOL I've felt that way plenty of times. I enjoyed your lovely post. :-)

Well caught! I tend to keep the camera in a drawer by the back door, just in case!

Lovely picture of the heron on the roof. Reminds me of the book we read in school about the wheel on the roof only of course it was a stork. I try to take me camera with me at all times but you just know the perfect scene presents itself the day I forget.
